Garland Park (Former Benenden Hospital Site)

Garland Park is a transformative project redeveloping the former Benenden Hospital brownfield site into 87 homes, including 26 affordable residences. This project is a vital part of the Benenden Neighbourhood Plan, designed in collaboration with Esquire Developments, Clague Architects, and local authorities.

Our approach at EDLA has focused on creating outdoor spaces that honour the site’s historic heritage and enhance its natural environment. The landscape design integrates communal spaces, pedestrian-friendly areas, and opportunities for community engagement, such as communal growing, harvesting, and nature trails. These elements foster a strong sense of connection and inclusivity among residents.

Sustainability is at the core of Garland Park’s design, with features like ecological corridors, native planting, and a communal orchard aimed at boosting biodiversity and creating a harmonious living environment. We are proud to be part of this project, which not only revitalises a derelict site but also sets a benchmark for sustainable community living.

Project Update: We are now working on the detailed technical design.
