Medway Bridge Marina, Rochester, Kent

For this fascinating project, set along the River Medway at Rochester, we delivered the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) and the Landscape Design. The LVIA included an assessment of the Site against local landscape character, features, local built form, and visual context. It also included a review with regard to the site’s relationship to the adjoining AONB landscape to the west.

With regards to the design, whilst a constrained site, the approach was to create communal gardens fronting onto the river, where new trees were proposed, both mitigating for the loss of trees required to be removed for the development but also strategically placed to filter longer views towards the apartments from the other side of the river. Our proposals included material selections to reference the marina setting and architectural language and worked closely with the drainage team to create a scheme that was functional whilst also addressing flood risk considerations.

Our scheme proposes a series of communal spaces, offering opportunities for views over the River Medway through careful use of level changes.

The scheme was granted planning permission in 2021.
