Project Boudica: DHL Strategic Site, Towcester

The site is an allocated site to the north of Towcester, within the ‘golden triangle’ of logistics in the UK. The scheme is for 1 million sq. Ft. of allocated warehousing and logistics, and DHL are looking to achieve Breeam ‘excellent’ on the scheme, and provide a network of open spaces and activities for their employees to enjoy in their breaks.

We worked with DHL to design a landscape that provides recreational opportunities for employees and existing residents, and through our landscape analysis work, we have advised on mitigation measures including level changes, building heights, rendering, planting and bunding. Landscape planning analysis informed the evolving layout for the scheme and tested verified views to inform heights and cladding choices.

Our work also included the landscape design of the scheme which includes trim trails for staff members through new woodland, orchards with a picnic area, a sprint track, a feature attenuation basin with seating areas, acoustic and visual mitigation bunding, and staff welfare courtyards. The public access connects and enhances the existing public right of way network.

Inevitably this scheme will result in landscape and visual effects, however, through our work, the team was able to reduce this where possible.

Biodiversity Net Gain would be achieved through the scheme proposals and the additional offsite mitigation for a new nature area with a diverse array of habitats on what is currently agricultural land. The scheme is currently awaiting determination.

We have undertaken the LVIA (EIA development), verified views, landscape design, and detailed planting plans.
